The John Buckingham ’69 Scholarship

Your donation to the USNA Alumni Association, Tx Gulf Coast Foundation, makes a difference.   As a 501(c)3, your donation is also tax deductible.  Our current, spring campaign specifically goes towards the John Buckingham ’69 Scholarship, sponsoring young, bright, Naval Academy perspective candidates from the Houston area.  These perspective candidates will be attending either the Naval Academy Admissions Department’s summer STEM or Summer Seminar (NASS) programs.  Your donation goes to help fund a student who has been identified as financially in-need.  Each year, the TxGC Foundation has been able to sponsor full tuition for some or all of the dozen-or-so perspective candidates from our area.  These candidates can go on to become Midshipmen at the Academy, and future Naval Officers.

About NASS (Summer Seminar)

The US Naval Academy Summer Seminar is a fast-paced, six-day experience for high achievers who have completed their junior year in high school.  Summer Seminar teaches you about life at the Naval Academy, where academics, athletics, and professional training play equally important roles in developing our nation’s leaders.

About Summer STEM

Engineering is all about creating, building, and making things better.  So what does it take to be an engineer?  If you like math and science, you are off to a great start.  If you enjoy discovering new things, solving problems, and learning how things work – even better.  Creativity, persistence, and the desire to make the world a better place are also important qualities.  Becoming an engineer requires hard work and a good education.  The Naval Academy’s summer program is a great start to a career in science and engineering.

Sponsorship Levels

• Flagship Sponsor – $2,500
  • Exclusive sponsorship role;  All marketing material will recognize your organization as the title sponsor
  • Beneficiaries will also promote your organization through their marketing channels, social media, websites
  • Official activity sponsor or goods give away sponsor (glasses, headbands, shirts, etc).
  • Opportunity to address the audience at the final event (silent auction)
  • Opportunity to set up a marketing booth or display at the event
  • Free admission for 10 people into the event
• Red Sponsor – $1,000
  • Your organization’s logo is displayed at the event and in marketing materials (including social media)
  • Official activity sponsor or give away sponsor (glasses, headbands, shirts, etc.)
  • Opportunity to address the audience at the final event (silent auction)
  • Opportunity to set up a marketing booth or display at the event
  • Free admission for 6 people into the event
• White Sponsor – $500
  • Your organization’s logo is displayed at the event and in marketing materials (including social media)
  • Official activity sponsor or give away sponsor (glasses, headbands, shirts, etc.)
  • Allowed to address the audience at their sponsored event
  • Opportunity to set up a marketing booth or display at the event
  • Free admission for 4 people into the event
• Blue Level – $250
  • Your organization’s logo is displayed at the event and in marketing materials (including social media)
  • Free admission for 2 people into the event

TxGC Foundation’s Top Gun Annual Benefit

In 2014, the US Naval Academy Alumni Association, Texas Gulf Coast (TxGC) Foundation, established a new tradition in the Houston area.  The Top Gun Annual Benefit has become a noteworthy event that has integrated the community members at large with the local veteran population.  The proceeds go to two handpicked, local veterans service organizations (VSOs), selected each year, in addition to a portion going to the TxGC Foundation.  For 2018, the two primary VSOs are Team Rubicon and USO Houston.  These organizations effectively enrich the lives of their members and communities.  Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.  During Harvey, Team Rubicon was intricate in serving the community at-large, quickly and effectively.  USO Houston continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so that the service member can focus on their mission, serving their country.  The TxGC Foundation supports the mission of the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, in developing young men and women into our nations future Naval Officers.

Over 800 people have experienced the beach volleyball, Kenny Loggins music, games, fun, food, and camaraderie that the Top Gun Benefit provides while raising, over the past three years, over $20,000 for local veteran charities, enabling them to continue their missions.  With your support, the Top Gun Annual Benefit will continue to surpass each previous year’s numbers.
